Identity 01

Yan

Tokyo • Black cotton twill

I design interfaces for games and still get lost underneath Umeda. Usually while explaining to someone else where we’re going. Friday nights are boxing, where I’m slowly learning that noticing what someone’s about to do and stopping them are different skills. On Sundays I’ll go to Den Den Town for one replacement button and come home with another arcade stick. They feel different. I can explain, but you’ll wish you hadn’t asked. Friends visiting Osaka get a very specific list of places to eat, then a message checking whether they actually went. I’m happy for people to make their own decisions. I just don’t understand why they’d ask me first and then make those ones.

Garment Details

An oversized, fully reversible blouson jacket with a raised collar, elasticated cuffs and fitted hem.

Wind-resistant, shower-resistant cotton twill on one side; medium-wale cotton corduroy on the reverse.

Three zipped pockets per side — two side, one chest — remain functional whichever way worn.

Design Notes

The jacket began with a slightly unreasonable question: if this were the only jacket you owned, what would it need to get right?

Seven samples later, the result is deliberately simple. Both faces are designed to function as the outside, never as an outer and a lining. The collar sits high enough to shelter your chin while leaving room for a scarf. The cuffs turn back to adjust the sleeve length. Zipped pockets become concealed storage when the jacket is reversed.

We gave the same attention to things nobody else sees. The pocket lining is exceptionally soft Italian viscose simply because your hands spend time there. Luxury usually concentrates on what other people notice. We were also interested in what the wearer notices.

We weren't trying to give you reasons to own four jackets. We were trying to make one enough.

Responsibility

We produce in small, considered runs rather than building volume for its own sake.

Reversibility is part of the same approach: designing more genuine use into one garment instead of multiplying products for every variation.

We avoid unnecessary synthetic additions and favour single-fibre materials where they make sense, with longevity considered both physically and aesthetically.
